Welcome to HerHealthMD

HerHealthMD is a health education platform committed to centering women's health and driving policy change that improve outcomes for individuals and communities. Founded by a practicing OB/GYN, our mission is to engage women in meaningful conversations about the issues that matter most to them. Whether through writing, public speaking, or advocacy, we aim to empower women with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their health. We believe that when women are equipped with information and agency, they become powerful catalysts for change. While we may not have all the answers, we’re here to ask the right questions, share trusted insights, and support women—and the people they love—in leading healthy, thriving lives.

Honoring Resilience: North Carolina Officially Recognizes Black Maternal Health Week

On Wednesday, April 15, the Executive Mansion served as a backdrop for a pivotal moment in the fight for health equity. Governor Josh Stein officially signed a proclamation declaring Black Maternal Health Week in North Carolina, joining a vital national movement to center the voices and experiences of Black mothers.

While the week itself is a grassroots initiative championed by advocates across the country, this formal proclamation marks a significant state-level commitment to addressing the systemic gaps in our healthcare system.

Why This Proclamation Matters

The signing was more than just a formal gesture; it was a public acknowledgment of a sobering reality. In North Carolina and across the U.S., Black women face significantly higher rates of maternal mortality and complications compared to their white counterparts, regardless of income or education level.

Senator Natalie Murdock also invited Dr. Benoit-Wilson to share remarks with the audience based on her 26 years of clinical experience and her passion for helping women and families.
